and not allow him to go out alone. Grandpa, feeling bored and restless in the
city flat, decides to go for a walk. Ravi, obeying his mother, secretly follows
him like a spy. While following Grandpa, Ravi is surprised to see that his
grandfather is actually very smart and independent. Grandpa helps a small child
who has fallen down, talks warmly with the neighbours and shopkeepers, buys

Message of the story
The story ‘Vitamin-M’ by Asha Nehemiah conveys a beautiful and important
message about caring for the elderly. It tells us that senior citizens do not
need just physical safety or medicines; they actually need a special kind of
“Vitamin-M”. This Vitamin-M does not stand for any real medicine but for Memory,
Mindfulness, Mercy and Magnanimity. In other words, elderly people
need us to remember their feelings, be mindful of their dignity, show them
mercy and patience, and treat them with generosity and respect.
The story beautifully highlights that overprotecting the elderly and taking
away their independence can make them feel sad and helpless. Instead, treating
them with love, giving them freedom and valuing their experience brings them
true happiness. It teaches us that bridging the generation gap with
understanding and affection is the best way to make our grandparents feel
wanted and respected.
